Texas Tornados

Texas Tornados were a Tex-Mex supergroup out of Texas, built around four veterans: singer and guitarist Doug Sahm, keyboardist Augie Meyers (Sahm's longtime partner in the Sir Douglas Quintet), accordion master Flaco Jimenez, and singer Freddy Fender. The four came together in 1989 and mixed country, rhythm and blues, early rock and roll, and conjunto into a sound that felt like a party rooted deep in the Texas-Mexico border tradition. Each member had a substantial solo career before the group formed, which gave their recordings an easy, lived-in confidence.
