Sierra Maestra
Sierra Maestra is a Havana-based Cuban band that formed in 1976 among students at the University of Havana. They play traditional son cubano using the classic lineup of tres, guitar, trumpet, bongo, guiro, and vocals, the same instrumentation popular in the 1920s and 1930s. They were among the first groups to actively revive that old-style son sound for new generations, well before the Buena Vista Social Club brought wider international attention to the genre.
