Rubén González

Rubén González (1919-2003) was a Cuban pianist from Santa Clara who spent decades playing with some of Cuba's biggest orchestras, helping shape the sound of modern Cuban piano alongside peers like Lilí Martínez and Peruchín. He worked with bandleaders including Arsenio Rodríguez and Enrique Jorrín, covering styles from danzón to cha-cha-chá and mambo. After retiring in the 1980s, he came back in the 1990s through the Buena Vista Social Club revival, introducing his playing to a worldwide audience.
