Nnenna Freelon

Nnenna Freelon is an American jazz singer, composer, producer, and arranger born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, who has built her career from a base in Durham, North Carolina. Her slightly smoky alto voice moves easily between jazz standards, soul, and gospel, and she has earned nine Grammy nominations over a recording career that stretches back to the early 1990s. She is also an arts education advocate and has worked extensively in live performance alongside her studio work.
