Mel Brown

Mel Brown (1939-2009) was a Mississippi-born blues guitarist who also worked extensively in jazz, soul jazz, and funk over a career spanning several decades. He built his reputation playing with West Coast R&B artists before joining the house band at Austin's Antone's and later settling in Kitchener, Ontario, where he became a central figure in the local blues scene. His guitar style ranged from straight-ahead blues to soul-inflected jazz, and he recorded for labels including BluesWay and Impulse!
