Irma Thomas

Irma Thomas is a soul and R&B singer born in 1941 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, who built her career in New Orleans. She earned the title 'Soul Queen of New Orleans' over a career stretching more than five decades, rooted in gospel, blues, and classic soul. In 2007 she won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album, one of the few major industry recognitions for a body of work that began in the early 1960s.
