Eubie Blake

Eubie Blake was an American pianist and composer born in Baltimore in the late 1880s who worked in ragtime, vaudeville, and musical theater for decades. He is best remembered for co-writing the 1921 Broadway production Shuffle Along, one of the first major all-Black musical revues on Broadway, created with his longtime collaborator Noble Sissle. A revival of public interest in the 1970s and 1980s introduced his music to new audiences, and he received honorary doctorates from multiple universities before his death in 1983.
