Cab Calloway

Cab Calloway (1907-1994) was an American jazz singer, bandleader, songwriter, and actor from the swing era, born in Rochester, New York and raised in Baltimore. He was a fixture at the Cotton Club in Harlem and led one of the most popular dance bands in the country from the early 1930s through the late 1940s. His energetic scat singing and showmanship made him one of the defining entertainers of the era, and his bands featured major jazz talents including Dizzy Gillespie, Chu Berry, and Milt Hinton.
