AMARFIS Y LA BANDA DE ATAKKE

Amarfis y La Banda de Atakke is a merengue and tropical music act built around Amarfis Aquino, a vocalist and bandleader originally from Sabana Grande de Boya, Dominican Republic. Aquino relocated to New York, studied composition and arranging at the City College of New York, and worked with various tropical groups before signing with Sonolux (Sony Music) in the late 1990s. The group plays in a high-energy style rooted in merengue, and their early recordings charted across Latin America, the United States, and Europe.
